Year 2021 : an active and positive new immigrant model in the community!
Zarif Akbarian, a member of a multilingual non-profit organization who is the coordinator for Seniors Program! He has been working there since July 2018, and has been working on this program since early 2020.
As a newcomer 6 years ago, Zarif had received a lot of assistance from the a multilingual non-profit organization services provided.
he wanted to give back to his community and decided to help out at a multilingual non-profit organization.
He started off working as a case manager, supporting refugees and newcomer families, and eventually ended up as the coordinator of the Seniors Social Prescribing Program.
In that program, Zarif connects with seniors with various non-clinical resources, programs and activities, and gets to personally know the seniors he is connecting with. He engages in conversations with them, getting to know their life story, providing life goals, and encouraging seniors to do what they want to achieve. It is important for Zarif to provide interactivity for his seniors, especially during a time where socializing is difficult to do.
Zarif supports many seniors no matter the situation, from helping them prepare for citizenship, to doing grocery shopping for those he has interacted with. The joy that the seniors get when Zarif helps them out, especially when they achieve their goals, is what makes his work worth it for him.
“I understand resources are limited and we are living in a difficult time, but if you work with your whole heart, you will find a way to help the situation. You will get what you work for!”
