Here is the UN’s criteria of what constitutes genocide, and why Canada matches it, in respect to the genocide of the Indigenous peoples: a. “Killing members of a group”. – At least 6000+ Indigenous children died in the residential school system.

b. “Causing serious bodily harm or mental harm to members of the group”. – the residential school system was found to employ sexual, mental & physical abuse on the children. The intergenerational trauma stands to this day.

c. “Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.” – consistent boil water advisories, inadequate & dangerous housing (ex. Mould), inadequate funding, etc.

d. “Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group”. – forced sterilization of indigenous women & forced Indigenous girls to have IUDs.
